I am so loving my collection of Kona Cotton solids and contemplating the many different quilts one can make with them.
Several years ago, I never would have dreamed of making a quilt from just solids. I was "raised" in the quilting mindset that you mix "large and small prints" in a quilt for interest, or that you choose one large-scale colorful fabric for a quilt and then select your coordinating prints from the colors in the large scale print. I think those are very "safe" ways to put fabrics together for a quilt, and they worked very well for me for many years.
Well, those design theories have been set aside as I look at all the incredible modern quilts that use solids fabrics, either entirely, or primarily. Here are a few of my favorites:
I've been following the progress of this amazing quilt on Nichole's blog. I love, love, love, all the shades of dark blue and how they work together to add richness to the dark areas. I love the contrast between the blue and white, and, those blocks are absolutely amazing. If you haven't clicked over already, please check out Nichole's blog. It's inspiring!
I've been studying the Modern Quilt workshop, a book by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr. My favorite quilt in the book is called Plain Spoken, and a quick search on flickr yields plenty of eye candy. Here are just a few:
In the book, the quilt's designers explain that they used more than two dozen colors in their quilt. I have to tell you, it's first on my list of quilts to make after the first of the year!
Time for church! Have a wonderful day everyone.

I have always loved solid colored quilts. I think my love started with all those beautiful Amish quilts. The colors against the black are so striking.
I can get "lost" on Flickr looking at all the gorgeous quilts!

Plain Spoken is one of my most favorites too! I used to think if you used solids, your quilt had to look Amish - not so anymore!!!!! These are great quilts.
