My Moda salesman was here on Friday, tempting me with samples of all the fabric lines that were introduced a few days before at Quilt Market in Houston. I'm attempting to maintain a style of fresh, modern, designer fabrics to use in my quilts and sell in my etsy shop, so it was easy to say no to the traditional prints, reproductions, and soft, florals. Then came the hard part. There are SO many really great modern fabrics by really good designers.
Then, Michael Miller Fabrics called me yesterday afternoon to show me (via the web) all of their new fabrics from Market. Then I thought about all the Kona Cotton colors I need to reorder as my stock is getting low, and the colors I would like to add to my stock.
Not to mention Kaffe Fasset and Amy Butler...
Overwhelming? It wouldn't be if I could just buy it all, because it's all so pretty!
Being on a budget, like most people, I need to be selective and limit what I buy. (Until I win the lottery, lol.) It's still risky, though. What if I buy fabric and no one else likes it? Oh! The pressure! Haha.
Yes, I ordered some Moda lines. Won't see those for months, though. Needing something fresh for the shop now, and I've narrowed my options to two:
1. Restock the Kona Cottons that have been selling well and add 10 more colors. (Very tempting.)
or
2. Go out on a limb and order these Michael Miller fabrics, which I adore:
Which fabric would you most desire?

Now see, I'd never make it owning a shop - I'd either buy up everything or be paralyzed by indecision! I love the Kona cottons, but those MM fabrics are sweet! Still....I'd have to say the Kona cottons.
I used to mostly use Moda fabrics. It was what my quilt shop stocked, and I love them all. I also love jelly rolls and charm packs, they are so great for small projects. But I'm starting to move into a solids phase. I'd like to do more stitcheries and solids are great for that. And then the 30's reproductions, well, who can resist those??? I use those a lot for baby projects.
I'm going to post a link on my blog tomorrow - I have to do a post but need to take a few pics first. That's the hardest part of blogging for me, taking the time to do the pictures, lol!

1 entry - I like the Michael Miller prints! They're way cool! :0)
5 entries - I love Moda fabrics, but I don't buy any one type of fabric all the time. I have a little bit of everything.
Thanks for the giveaway! :0)

I love the Michael Miller prints.... but then I rarely use solid colors.
I love jewel tones and brighter colors; the Moda line always has something I like (Swanky, Birdie, etc)
BUT lately I have found I like Red Roosters country browns and creams...
fickle, I know... :-)
Great Give Away, Thank you!!

I would vote for Kona solids for I am in love with solids at the moment.
Posted by: Zarina | 10/21/2009 at 12:12 AM
I have not much access to all the quality cotton but I usually buy Moda online.
At the moment, mainly using cotton from our local fabric store. Not the best but it will hold up in a quilt.

I love the Michael Miller...so that's my vote. I rarely use solids, except sashing. I love the owls!
The fabric I sew with most is Moda. I have a serious obsession with it lately and have purchased some of the Birdie, Odyssea, and Happy Campers fabrics.
Great Giveaway!

Today I would vote for more of the Kona Cottons, but by tomorrow, who knows?
I think I buy mostly Moda, but Micheal Miller would be a close second.

Hi Sue ~ I think I would go for the Michael Miller fabrics. I haven't seen those anywhere yet. They are so pretty!!! I do use the Kona solids frequently for stitcheries. It works perfectly!
I don't really have a range I buy most. I take what I like and don't look at the 'producer'. I often like Henry Glass, also ...Kaufman (my latest Schnibbles is made from a range by him - please have a look on my latest post on my blog). So, I can't help you there *LOL*
The Jelly Roll giveaway is lovely! I have the shoe panel of that range. Wonderful (O:
Have a lovely day.
PS: I will link to your giveaway on my sidebar.

Hi Sue!
I have a totally different vote. =) I'd replenish the Kona colors that are selling well, but not add anymore. I'd skip the MM and buy a Free Spirit line (or 2).
I'm just becoming a fabric snob and my favorite prints come from Free Spirit. Such yummy fabric and prints.
Love ya,
Erin

I vote for option #2 the Michael Miller fabric-lovely and fun!
I LOVE Moda fabric but I also love reproductions.
I will blog about your give away in tomorrows blog. Love the jelly roll....I've never owned one before...hint hint :o) but I know exactly what I would do with it!
Take care and thank you!

1: I would replenish what sells well, and pick out 3 more outside the box.
2: While those fabrics you're showing are neat, they are all very dark. I think it these times people need more whimsy, and not necessarily full brights but feel good prints. There's a lot of great choices from all the fresh designers including Paula Prass, Patty Young, Bari J. Even the major mfg. have some great mix and match.
3: I don't prefer matchy matchy. I like to pick out a few different things from misc. lines. But I always like to have some Kona solids to work in for a place to rest and bring out the colors.
Thanks for the giveaway, good luck!

Okay it looks like it would be a toss up from the votes. But I would go with the Kona. I do like using solids in my quilts, and I think it helps to blend things out.
I heart, heart, heart Moda AND Reproductions.
Thanks for such a great giveaway :-)

Hate to be a drag, but I'd add to the Kona cottons. Only because I don't often buy trendy, modern prints. I prefer Moda fabrics and Rouenneries is an example of fabric I love. Especially during these economic times I think it is safer to stock up on things that last over time. Sweet giveaway!

1. Kona solids
2. I prefer Moda
3. I have put a link on my blog.
I love the giveaway Thank you.

I love the MM fabrics so I would go with those. I use a variety of fabrics but probably MM and Alexander Henry the most.

The Michael Miller fabrics are wonderful...love them.
I usually Moda fabrics but if there is something by a different designer that I like, you better believe it goes on my stash.
Great giveaway.

I would vote for option 1. Solids never go out of style and the more colors the better.
I use more Moda than others. I love Moda florals.

1 entry- I like the Michael Miller prints. They look fun!
5 entries- I prefer reproduction, Civil War, anything that looks old.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

I think I would have to say the Kona solids as they would have a higher overall appeal than animal prints.
And as I look over my fabric, I would say the majority is moda. Thanks for having the great giveaway!

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
1 Entry: I love the Michael Miller but also love Kona Cotton. Being the more practical choice and not likely to go out of fashion, I'd go with the solids.
5 Entries: I have more Kona solids than any other fabric--great for clothing and quilting!
